Governor Joseph Gale and His Indian First Lady

The life and times of Joseph Gale and the founding of Oregon's First Provisional Government.

Dedication

This book is dedicated to the early pioneers who made the long trek west in wagons, by horseback and on foot, seeking a future for their children and for generations not yet realized. Through hard work, hardship and often times heartache, they settled this vast area that we now recognize as the Pacific Northwest. And to Joseph Gale and the men and women, who dreamed of a state where people are governed fairly, treated with dignity, and protected by law. Through unwavering perseverance, they formed the foundation of the Oregon that we enjoy today. To them we owe a debt of gratitude which we can never repay.
